A delegation from University of Illinois, USA visited ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana

A delegation of five faculties and fifteen students from ADM Institute for the Reduction of Postharvest Loss, University of Illinois, USA visited ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana on 13th January, 2016, as a part of study abroad program under the collaborative project “Reduction of Postharvest Loss for Smallholder Farmers”, in the State of Bihar, India, with Rajendra Agricultural University (RAU), Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA). The aim of the project is to reduce postharvest losses (PHL) in cereal crops in the State of Bihar by identifying the hotspots in supply chain, identifying and testing suitable processing techniques, and providing training and education about these technologies.

Dr. RK Gupta, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana gave an insight about the institute with particular emphasis on the intervention made by institute in assessing and reducing post-harvest losses in the country. Dr. SK Nanda, Head, Food Grains and Oilseeds Processing Division informed the delegates about the post-harvest loss study conducted by institute. Dr. Prasanta K Kalita, Director, ADMI, University of Illinois, USA appreciated the work done by ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana in post-harvest sector. He said that ADM Institute and ICAR-CIPHET share common goal of minimizing post-harvest losses and expressed his interest in future collaboration particularly in the area of horticultural crop processing. A video about research activities of ICAR-CIPHET was also shown to the visiting delegates. The delegation interacted with the scientists of institute and discussed the possibility about future collaboration in the area of post-harvest loss reduction. The visit was coordinated by Dr. Sangita Bansal, OIC, PME Cell.
