ICAR-CIPHET gives license for commercial manufacturing of "Live Fish Carrier System" to JJ Fish (Farakka), West Bengal &Mr. Indrajith MV (Kerala) 

ICAR-CIPHET Ludhiana transferred the technology of "Live Fish Carrier System and method of transportation of live fish therein" to JJ Fish (Farakkah), Vill. Khaira Kandi, P.O. Beniagram, Dist. Murshidabad, W.B. and Mr. Indrajith MV, who is an entrepreneur from Thrissur district of Kerala. The certificate of licensing was transferred virtually by Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), Ludhiana to the party through video conferencing. The technology was developed by Dr. Armaan U. Muzaddadi and team of ICAR-CIPHET. Live fish carrier system (LFCS) is a electric tri-cycle based live fish transportation system for short and medium distance (about 80 km) transportation of fish including the table carps (rohu, catla, mrigal, common carp, grass carp, silver carp, bighead carp) in live condition from one place to another for marketing, rearing, ornamental displaying and breeding purposes. This technology helps fish farmers to transport their fish in live condition with a fish mortality of less than 5% for a journey period of about 4-5 hours, the fish mortality otherwise in traditional crude system is 50-60% or even 100%.  The system is convenient to handle fish by 1 person whereas 4-5 labours/trip are required in traditional method. Since the live fish by itself provides the guarantee of freshness and no use of chemical preservatives, customers readily choose to buy live fish by paying extra price, thus live fish always fetch 50-80% more price than their dead counterparts. Further fish farmers do not need to spend on purchasing ice, insulated packaging containers and preservatives which are the requirements for dead fish marketing. So, by using this system farmers will be benefited on both ways by getting more price per fish and by spending less on preservation and packaging. It was observed that a fish farmer can earn 80-100% more money compared to traditional method of selling fish in dead and iced form, by using this system. But the invented new system reduces. The system may be instrumental in increasing farmers’ income and also capable of contributing significantly to Prime Minister’s Matsya Sampada Yojona.
